Kräutermühle

Spot, building, farm, …

Schaffhausen, Switzerland

An old mill which Johann Conrad Fischer acquired in the Mühlental near (now in) Schaffhausen in 1802 and converted into a foundry.

At a later date, the fittings foundry (Werk III) stood on this site. The “Kräutermühle” was completely destroyed by a fire in 1835 and was replaced by a new factory building, next to which Fischer built his residence. In 1810, the site was enlarged through the purchase of the field known as Spitalwiese, where Fischer built a forge (subsequently Werk II) and in 1838 another hammer mill (subsequently Werk I or the steel foundry).
