guilder
unit of measurement, currency
Originally a gold coin, later a unit of account and a silver coin.
A distinction was drawn between a gold guilder, a currency guilder and a silver guilder. The internationally recognized abbreviations fl. und f. derive from the first gold coin of this type, the Florentine florin.
